The National Kidney Foundation launched Kidney Numbers and the CKD Heat Map, an animated video series to educate people about chronic kidney disease.
“Understanding the role of kidney numbers and how to read and interpret that data can be complex and difficult to convey to both patients and the general public,” Joseph Vassalotti, MD, chief medical officer of the NKF, said in a press release.
NKF experts created three short, animated videos that translate complex medical terminology in lay terms to promote patient understanding of CKD risk and treatment options.
The videos were created in response to the low rate of public knowledge about CKD. According to the press release, approximately 37 million adults in the United States are estimated to have CKD, but 90% do not know that they have it.
These videos are available on YouTube and at www.kidney.org and are available in English and Spanish.
